MURPHY for MAYOR
Press Release: 9/23/03
In a press release issued today Patricia Murphy, the republican mayoral
candidate asked "Where is the Still Meadows Proposal"? Ms Murphy said " Earlier
this year a proposal was verbally presented to the Town Council to develop the
town owned Still Meadow property into retail space. A committee was formed to
look into possible municipal uses and report back to the Town Council so they
may decide what to do with this property. "Wait a minute!" Ms. Murphy
declared.... "What we ultimately decide to do with this property is to important
to let the Town Council decide on their own" she said.
"I think we should send this to a non binding referendum and have the people
vote on how they would like to see the property utilized"
Ms. Murphy also said " a possible format could be a multiple choice of potential
uses such as: Keep it for future Town Use ( public works, parks and recreation,
offices,etc)
Retail/Commercial
Industrial/Corporate Tech Park
Multiple family/Senior housing (currently zoned)"
She continued " The Town Council would then be equipped with a recommendation of
how the people wanted their property utilized"
Ms. Murphy also pointed out, " to date the Still Meadow Topic languishes
somewhere at the bottom of the Town Council Agenda and we may never know the
answers to a lot of important questions such as: Where is the written offer to
purchase and when will it be presented to the public? How Long will this offer
be good for? What regulations need to be changed to accommodate the Mayors
shopping center proposal? Was an appraisal done on this property and for what
use and don't forget how much? The answers to these questions would help the
public to make a more informed decision."
